Rorey King they/them

Rorey grew up going to church in the woods of Lawrence, KS and has been drawing since parent-mandated quiet time and indoor recess. They are a self-taught and friend-grown artist most excited about creating to learn and exploring art as a medium for community engagement, connection and healing. Frequently switching up their scale, medium and subject matter, they enjoy the DIY lessons in craft as well as pursuing, processing, and integrating new information about identity, ecology, feminist theory and social histories, and how all of it (all of us) are connected.

Danielle & Brody SeeWalker she/her | he/him

Danielle and Brody SeeWalker are Hunkpapa Lakota citizens of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and currently reside in Denver, CO. Brody has grown up surrounded by art and creativity his entire life but has found a connection to murals and street art. He has been learning and assisting his mom with her murals over the past few years but this will be the first official collaboration between this mother-son duo. Danielle is a multidisciplinary artist, muralist, writer, businesswoman, Commissioner of the Denver American Indian Commission and most importantly, a mother. In her artistic practices, Danielle works across disciplines to explore the intersections of Native American stereotypes, microaggressions, and colonialist systems, both historically and in contemporary society. Drawing on au courant color palettes, expressionistic art strategies, and her Lakota traditions, SeeWalker spins her work into a contemporary vision to elevate historical perspectives as told from the side not often heard.

Shana Leaf she/her

“Color is a power which directly influences the soul” -Wassily Kandinsky

This work titled “Colors of the Soul" is a vibrant visual representation of the diversity in humanity. We were all created with a soul that was intentionally and uniquely designed. We are given the ability to be expressive in how we represent ourselves, exuding a countenance that can be seen and felt, much like color. These expressions of “types” of people are abstractly represented here by a variety of shades of color. What is the color of your soul?

Here is my artist statement/bio:

Shanah Leaf is a mural artist and art educator living in the Colorado Springs area. She graduated in 2018 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from UCCS where she played for the NCAA Division II women’s basketball team. She has been creating on wall spaces in her community ever since, and intends to continue to find opportunities to expand her work outside of the Colorado Springs and Denver area. She currently teaches middle school art in District 20 where she finds purpose in inspiring students with her current creations, and helping them develop skills and techniques to begin to find their own voice as a young artist.

Christel Perkins she/her

Christel Perkins is an artist and tattooer based in Fort Collins, CO. While in pursuit of her BFA in Painting at the RMCAD in Denver, the subject of her paintings were mostly portraiture and figurative. This fascination with the human form and the expression of the individual and collective experience of inhabiting a body eventually (in retrospect, naturally) led to an interest in tattoos and tattooing. Tattoos have the capacity to make visible the invisible self, to allow a person to claim their own body and express their identity. In parallel, we have forever made marks on ourselves and on walls as a means of communicating the culture to which we belong, and our place within it. Christel also draws inspiration from animals, fables, and art history. She enjoys telling stories about the human experience through images, whether on an intimate or universal scale.

Dan Levinson he/him

Dan specializes in history-themed mural designs. This includes portraiture as well as narrative story-telling. Dan’s style is a blend of abstract realism. The work tends to be monochromatic with pops of color. Projects show a diverse range of content/style/scale depending on the context. Often represented are subjects from history. He loves the process of working on large walls, bringing history to life and making the work relevant to the public.

Markus Puskar he/him

Markus’ practice is centered around the observation and replication of organic forms. The forms he paints and draw are taken from the movement of the natural world; whether it be the path that water follows, the floating of a leaf, or the way that a flower grows and fills empty space. Each movement presents a rhythm and a harmony that Markus attempts to bring out in linework and mark making.  By utilizing repetition of organic forms and movement, he hopes to create a living, breathing quality to his work, whether it is an abstract work or a landscape. Markus avoids using reference photos or guides in his work, forcing the impressions he is left with by our dynamic world to guide what he creates.
